The Västmanland Room

Now you can discover Västmanland in Dalarna! At least if you are attending a course at the Sätergläntan Institute for handicrafts and are staying in the so-called landscape house on Knippboberget. The new landscape room for Västmanland is a jubilee gift from the Västmanland County Homecraft Association to the Sätergläntan Institute for Crafts, which celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2023.

Most provinces are represented in a room in the provincial house on Knippboberget and now Västmanland is also represented. The new landscape room for Västmanland has good lighting, good charging facilities for both you and your devices, and literature related to the county and the landscape. The room has been renovated by Sätergläntan and the Västmanland County Crafts Association, which also provided the interior design.

Here, of course, there is a selection of handicrafts from the county, both functional and attractive. A room with function, information and tradition with a contemporary twist. Surely crafts can have a natural place in our daily lives! Links to the craftsmen below and more crafts from Västmanland county can be found on slojdivastmanland.se under the headline Find handicrafts.

About Västmanland

”It was once a small county that looked more like a crumpled square. Västmanland is its name. A scarred beauty whose voice is singing in the north and whining in the south, or just silent, depopulated and calm.”

So writes author Sven Olov Karlsson from Norberg in his introduction to the book Västmanland.

Västmanland County (län) is one of the smaller counties in Sweden. The landscape of Västmanland (landskap) is slightly larger and consists of ten municipalities in Västmanland County: Arboga, Fagersta, Hallstahammar, Kungsör, Köping, Norberg, Sala, Skinnskatteberg, Surahammar and Västerås, and four municipalities in Örebro County: Hällefors, Lindesberg, Ljusnarsberg and Nora. The county of Västmanland has 280,713 inhabitants and the county 326,022 inhabitants, of which 45,309 are inhabitants of the four municipalities in Örebro County (31 December 2022).
